Layers and Textures of Life August 28-29 Creative Retreat
Layers and Textures of Life:
A Creative Experience.
Well, this is some exciting news! My friend Jayne Belk from Funkiture Gifts and DIY Studio and my friend Mara La Faye, from Vintage Retail Therapy are joining me IN MEDINA , NY on August 28th and 29th! We are doing our very first pop up retreat for creatives!
We are like three peas in a pod, we are passionate about teaching and creative business, and we are a bunch of goofballs! You may very well follow all of us on Facebook!
On Saturday August 28th, you can pop by the shop any time from 11am -3pm to meet and chat with Jayne and Mara! We will have some fun free demos planned, and a few exciting surprises in store! Meghan will be with us the whole weekend, too!
With your event ticket, you will enjoy Saturday, August 28th from 6:30-9:00 pm for an evening at Lynne's cottage for Campfire Talks... a very informal gathering to share about all the things we love, why we create, and letting go of perfection. We will have snacks and goodies, and some special s'mores! And, of course, enjoy the beautiful Lake Ontario Sunset!
Sunday, August 29th, Join us from 12:30-5:00pm at the cottage for an outdoor creative session at the lake! Lynne, Jayne and Mara will teach and explore layers and textures with the various mediums that we all love! You'll experience a guided journey to find YOUR personal creative style! You'll try new things, share ideas, and encourage one another as we create. This is an outdoor event, under tents, with a catered meal and lots of snacks and drinks available. Enjoy some reflective time, take a walk, sit on the decks, take a dip in the lake. This is your time to wind down and explore YOU!
Travel and Accommodations.
Medina is a very small, rural historic community on the Erie Barge Canal, with easy access to the NYS Thruway. You'll find quaint shops in our downtown area, historic markers and access to a beautiful scenic towpath. If you are flying, we like the Buffalo International Airport or Rochester International Airport. Both of them are great.
You are responsible for your own hotel accommodations and transportation. Medina is a very rural community with limited accommodations. The Beautiful Bent's Opera House has just opened, and you can find excellent rooms there.

Another nice option is a hostel, owned and operated by the Hart House, called BunkHause,
located within the village of Medina.
Hart House appears to be booked for that weekend, but by all means, give them a call to see if they have cancellations.
You can search hotels in Lockport, Williamsville ( at the transit road exit) or in Batavia for rooms within 20-40 minutes of Medina.
There are also many Air B and B's, VRBO's with cottage and room rentals within a 20 mile radius.
Not going to lie, you'll find some of the very best local restaurants in Medina. Harvest at Bents, Zambistro, The Shirt Factory and Mariachi del Oro. In addition there are a few awesome diners, pizza and pubs, a Farmer's Market and food trucks! We will provide a catered meal on Sunday at the lake.
We cannot predict the weather! But late August tends to be lovely in Western NY. It can get chilly at the lake, so be prepared with a few layers. And it can also be really hot! If it does rain, we do have a plan B. Please come prepared for a VERY casual weekend and portapotties at the lake. We are as laid back and real as it gets, and we want you to feel comfortable!
Within a few weeks, Lynne will get a private facebook group going for event attendees and send an invite so you can all meet ahead of time and discuss your plans. We will share details with attendees after the reservations have been filled.
Saturday evening snacks and a Sunday lunch will be provided, as well as drinks and nibbles!
closest Airport is Buffalo International. Medina is a 45 minute drive from the airport into rural Western New York. Accommodations are limited, but available in the village and within a 30 minute drive.
