Framed Plaster Intaglio
An intaglio is an engraving or incised figure in stone or other hard material depressed below the surface so that an impression from the design yields an image in relief.
our intaglios have been hand crafted from plaster, using original antique pieces as the mould casting. The originals could be hundreds of years old. After they are cast, we wax them to bring out the details and add a gold wax to the outer edge.
each piece is mounted within a shallow black shadow box frame which is lined with a textured linen paper.
Intaglios, engraved images in stone, have been used as personal adornment and sentimental keepsakes for thousands of years and, according to folklore, attract health and good fortune. Each is unique and tells a story of a place, time or person. Charming in singles, or stunning grouped in a gallery.
