Hello, Creative Friends

August has arrived, and while we’re still soaking up the beauty of summer, the studio is already buzzing with ideas for the seasons ahead. This week has been filled with holiday inspiration, exciting announcements, and a few beautiful reminders of why handmade creations become treasured keepsakes.

If You Missed Us

This week we gathered for our Wednesday live on Facebook and YouTube, where we created the sweetest ornament that featured one of the new LaBlanche Papers — and it’s a Dachshund! I’ve already made a second ornament to match.

The live tutorial is HERE.

Thank you to everyone who joined us live and shared your ideas throughout the broadcast. Your comments and ideas always make these gatherings feel like friends creating around the same table.

Community Spotlight

This week we’re celebrating a beautiful handmade ornament collection our Insider Melanie Fox created for family.

“I made them for my brother’s family — each letter represents the first initial of a family member. My brother lives in a beautiful log cabin surrounded by woods and cornfields, and he’s an avid hunter, so the stag heads felt like the perfect rustic touch. I started with clear glass fillable ornaments, primed and painted them with DIY Marquee Paint, then created the frames using IOD clay and a Vintage Brooches Mould. After painting them with DIY Tarnished Pearl, I attached them to the ornaments. I stamped tissue paper with IOD Letterpress Stamp and stag designs, decoupaged them into the center, sealed everything, and aged the ornaments with DIY Dark & Decrepit. Finally, I added greenery, white berries, and ribbon. I wanted to create something personal that would feel at home in their cabin and become a keepsake they could bring out year after year.”

Handmade ornaments like these become part of a family’s Christmas traditions, growing even more meaningful as each new generation gathers around the tree. Thank you, Melanie, for sharing such a heartfelt project with our ellen j goods community.

What Inspires Us

I’ve been gathering up ideas and inspiration for the seasons ahead. Forever a collector of vintage holiday and seasonal décor, I’m excited to share a few cute Halloween projects and, of course, Christmas and winter.

No doubt IOD will be giving us a jaw-dropping seasonal collection — and true confession, I’ve already been creating with it and it’s a favorite of mine. You will also be seeing some upcoming seasonal artist-designed papers from Decoupage Queen.

Final Thoughts

Creativity isn’t measured by how much we finish — it’s found in the joy of making. Every brushstroke, every new technique, and every project teaches us something along the way.

Whether you’ve completed a masterpiece or simply gathered supplies for your next idea, you’re nurturing the creative spirit that brings beauty into your home and your life.

Thank you for allowing ellen j goods to be part of that journey.

Tell us what you are most looking forward to as we prepare for the busiest and most exciting creative season of the year.
